Thailand: Day 11 (Elephant Retirement Park - Feeding)

30 May, 2018
We had breakfast at a place down the road. It was a really good breakfast but I ordered too much! The guy was so kind and gave me juice and mango free.

We then headed off to the Elephant Park. We were a bit late but thank goodness the guy came back around to get us. The van quickly filled up and there were two American couples sitting behind us. The drive was cool, mostly along the coastline. The beach looked heavenly, it was such a hot day! When we reached the park we saw elephants, they looked so big! We hopped out, put on one of their singlet’s and went to say hi to the elephants. One of them was so big!

The elephants grabbed dirt and dropped it onto their backs to keep them cool.

The staff were really helpful and went around taking photos of us with the elephants.

We had lunch but before that they demonstrated how to make Pad Thai. It looked so yum! Lunch was good though I was so full from the lunch we had before! We sat with the Americans and had a good chat.

We broke off bananas and stirred some sticky rice with some other ingredients into balls - this is the one that liked the best so we had to feed them the bananas - otherwise they wouldn't eat them. The girls worked on this while the guys cut up the sugar cane.

It was so fun feeding them. Felt a little cautious first because of how large their trunks are and their mouths were big and they had huge tongues! It was a lot of fun, we had the opportunity to feed all of them and then we went and meet baby elephant with her mother.

It's crazy how much the elephants ate. We'd feed them and it didn't seem like they'd ever get full. They'd collect a couple of bananas and then eat them altogether. The baby elephant had so much thick spiky hair on it. Sometimes a elephant would be fussy and wouldn't eat bamboo.

Leaving a mark on the wall.
